To Theia Elizabeth,

As a child growing up, there was one memory of visiting yiayia and papou I cherish the most: you peeking through the fence with a smile handing my sister and I candies through the openings. I remember all the times you explained how to eat aero chocolate bars from the commercials, and I would take a massive bite instead making you laugh every time. Our summer chats when I would stay over at my yiayias house, comparing garden progress which often included exchanging fresh vegetables & fruits, telling us your stories from the past all meant so much to me, as did your humour when we would visit or chat in the front yard.

I will also never forget the many birthdays when you would prepare diples—my favourite dessert—year after year, and Yiayia would bring them up to our house. It’s a memory that will always stay with me.

Thank you for all of these beautiful childhood memories that I will never forget, for filling the lives of yiayia and papou with friendship, love and joy. The way you shared recipes, ingredients, freshly made goods and others with yiayia was the true essence of being a wonderful neighbor and friend. Your generosity spoke volumes on how caring and loving you were. 

Theia Elizabeth will forever be with us in our hearts.

To my Yiayia,

The grief I feel is overwhelming—but I’ve come to see it as the deepest proof that love existed.
These past couple of weeks have been incredibly hard. Some days have felt heavy, and others a bit lighter. There have been moments filled with deep, aching sadness—and others filled with so much gratitude. Gratitude for the love we were lucky enough to experience. A love that was unconditional and wholehearted. 
I’ll always miss our Filet-O-Fish Fridays, and sitting together with a coffee and some honey dip Timbits.
I’ll miss our chats—whether on the phone or in person—where we’d catch up on everything, and you'd call it your "CBC news."

Yiayia gave us so much—her love, her laughter, her stories, and her strength. She showed us what it means to be devoted to family, to find joy in small things, and to love without limits. While it’s incredibly hard to imagine life without her, I know her spirit lives on in all of us—in the way we care for each other, in the memories will share with her great grand kids, and in the little things that will always remind us of her. I’ll carry her with me forever, and I’ll keep honoring her the best way I know how: by loving deeply, laughing often, and never forgetting how lucky we were to be loved by her.
