I just found out...I am so sorry. I always admired Geoff for his unique niche and accomplishments, publishing music-humour books, and for how he 'endlessly' loved music and history. I have fond memories of hunkering over bowls of thick soup on a cold winter's day, talking our tongues off about writing, publishing, Genesis (UK music band we both loved), and so much more. 
He also adored his family, and one of the most beautiful photos I ever saw was of him holding one of his (baby) grandchildren. Rest in peace, Geoff, at some great celestial bookstore/band venue, no doubt. Condolences to all the family - my thoughts are very much with you.

Dear Jackie, Carl, Jonathan and families.
We are so sad at Geoff's passing and are thinking of you all at this very difficult time.
Geoff and I were friends together for over 60 years and although he moved to Canada in the mid-1960s, he always kept in touch 
As kids we would walk for miles around out locality and visit his many friends. He had an open friendliness that made him very popular with the people he came across during his school and working years. He had a great sense of adventure and belonged to a very active scout group where he enjoyed camping and all sorts of other activities. During this period he needed to earn money so he joined the local choir for a while and then decided a paper round would be a better option. He kept at this for a good few years so he could buy a push bike. Geoff was always self-sufficient and this is just one of many examples.
His keen interest in music started in his teens and was nurtured by his older brother Roger who worked in the recording industry and would bring back pre-release records for Geoff.  He got hold of a tape recorder and taped vast amounts of music from the radio. This was certainly not Hi-Fi playback but that didn't deter his enthusiasm. I also remember spending many hours touring local Record stores listening, in cramped booths, to the latest releases that we definitely could not afford to buy. Geoff left school and worked in London for Gallup Poll, a survey company, collating and processing data - this was pre computer days so it was all manual paper shuffling. He stuck at this for a couple of years but fancied a more physical occupation so he took up bricklaying with a local building company.  He didn't seem to mind the heavy work in, at times, cold and wet weather but he certainly was not cut out for a lifetime of manual work and had to use his active mind.
It was about this time he met Jackie, they got married and Carl arrived. Geoff decided he would earn a better standard of living by moving abroad, like his brothers and sister, so off to Canada they went. Definitely a good move where many more opportunities were available for anyone willing to work hard, this never daunted Geoff. 
We kept in regular contact by phone throughout the years and Geoff used to come and visit us when attending the Frankfurt (and other) Book shows, bringing with him an array of books for the family to peruse.  
His enthusiasm for life and his deep commitment to his family were very evident and is what made him tick. We will miss him and his long, enthusiastic and often passionate discussions which usually went well into the early hours of the morning  these memories will always bring a smile to our faces.

We loved him dearly and will miss him greatly, love from Bob, Brenda and all the family.

Geoff, our thoughts and hearts are full of memories of your warmth and affability, your modest lifestyle choices, your generosity of spirit, your passionate sense of analysis, and your sense of humour. Above all, we see you as a man dedicated absolutely to family.

Few parents have lived for their children to the extent you made that fundamental to your life, and our hearts go out to Carl and Jonathan and Jacky as they move on to remake their lives without you. 

Your love for Adam, Alison, Liz, and Vanessa over their whole lifetimes, and particularly once they were adults, reflected your ability to connect with young people great empathy and spirit. Only through recent conversations have we realized the frequency of your phone calls to your nieces and until 2012 your nephew Adam. 

You always fought against the younger brother cliché, and we remember with wry smiles the many discussions about birth order. But we cherish the mutual affection we sustained that abated not one bit despite some differences in age, possibly generation, and outlook, and are sure Ian and Roger share this.  

As a publisher, and before that a publisher's representative, we know from experience (a conference in Vancouver) how admired, respected, and liked you were in an industry to which you dedicated a good part of your life. Your sustained support as a book publisher flew in the face of contemporary trends, and luckily we have all those music books as evidence of your hard work and unflagging belief in humour, music and print.

Everyone who knew you knew of your love for music, and also your deep knowledge of music history. Today's move to retro vinyl somehow validates your passion for building a collection. 

Your deep feelings for the underdog reflected a wide and thoughtful consideration of many aspects of politics, social life and culture. 

We will miss you greatly, especially those wonderfully edgy conversations, your disdain for hypocrisy and your capacity for unstinting appraisal of the world you have now departed. Pace requiem, Geoff, we love you always.

My thoughts and deep condolences at this time of of great loss to you.  

Reflecting on my personal relation ship with Geoff  whom I first met in 1957 when we both attended Hinchleywood Secondary School  in England  for 2 years together.  The friendship continued on through the teenage years  and has survived both of us emigrating to the opposite ends of the Earth.  Geoff was always the the daredevil, always climbed higher in the tree, any cliff was a challenge to be surmounted, we both liked to travel and did so frequently courtesy of British Rail Platform tickets, hitch hiking and just plain walking but we always found some adventure wherever we went and even when the rain poured and we were freezing cold and the Hotel was a Red Telephone box.
 
I recall visiiting Geoff in Torronto and we were driving one very cold morning early Geoff stopped and orderded 3 x coffees to go and the inevitable doughnuts, we resumed our drive, I was mildly curious as to where the 3rd coffee was going when he pulled over called over and gave this homeless guy the coffee.  Something which I later learnt he did quite often.  It said a lot about Geoff and his love of people.

I will never forget you, our adventures and  I am proud to have known you  Geoff.

We are so very sad for your loss. Geoffrey was a wonderful and completely unique soul. He has been a true friend of Terry's for so many years. We are so sad. So many funny publishing memories to go on. One thing for certain he adored his family and took great pride in keeping us up to date with their lives and many accomplishments.
