Husband of Carol Ruby (Pack) Shaw, Father of Margo, Nancy and David Shaw, Father-in-law of Robert Young, Neil Luders and Kelly (Ahern) Shaw; Grandfather to Caitlin, Heather and Jacob Young, William and Bronwyn Luders and Samantha Shaw; Brother of Nancy Shaw and twin brother of John (Sheila) Shaw. Gerry was pre-deceased by his parents Fred and Ida Shaw.
Gerry was born August 15, 1931, in Toronto and raised in Lawrence Park where he attended John Ross Robertson Public School. A good student, he later enrolled at the University of Toronto Schools, and then the University of Western Ontario from which he graduated in 1954 with a degree in Business Administration. He immediately went to work at Imperial Oil where he enjoyed a career that spanned 32 years and took the family to Edmonton, Alberta, Norman Wells in the Northwest Territories and back to Toronto.
Gerry was a most loving husband, father and grandfather. He had time for everyone and his gentleness, generosity of spirit, humility and sense of humour made every moment in his company a sublime pleasure. He loved to garden, eat ice cream, tell a joke and whistle while he worked. He made even the most mundane chore fun.
Gerry loved nature and to travel with his wife and partner in adventure Carol. Together they hiked the West Coast Trail, rafted down the Chilco and Fraser rivers and went on safari in Africa. Gerry’s favourite spot in the world was the cottage where he "liberated" white pines and lovingly tended to his grounds. Gerry also spent many years driving cancer patients, delivering Meals on Wheels, and volunteering in his church.
The family would like to give special thanks to Doctors Jennifer Arvanitis, Stella Lee, Debbie Selby, and Sunil Verma as well as to P.S.W. Sue Tupas.
A Funeral Service will take place 12:00 pm Saturday, June 14th at Eglinton St. George’s United Church, 35 Lytton Blvd, Toronto, with a lunch to follow. The family will hold a cottage farewell July 26 at 8:00 pm on Bella Lake outside of Huntsville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eglinton St. George's United Church or The Temmy Latner Palliative Care Unit. On line condolences may be made at www.trullfuneralsyonge.com
