I just recently went on the Winston Churchill CI facebook. It got me to wondering about Mr. Crowe and found his Obituary. He was a wonderful teacher. The best teacher I ever had.  I had looked him up years ago but could not find him on the internet. He taught the students how to think, not just how to fill in answers on an exam. The character that he was showed in his classroom which always made it so interesting to go to class. We wanted to go to class to witness his wonderful sense of humour. I am saddened to hear of his passing but glad to hear he lived a full life. When I was in school (1981) he was spending his summers on a horse farm in Ireland. He would tell us of the tales of his travels and it was always amusing if not down right hilarious. Rest in Peace and thank you for making a generation think beyond what was written in a book. Fond memories of Gerry come to mind. He was a friend of my late husband's (John Woods) and a fan of the Tara Showband. Nobody more social & kind and a great party host or guest. God Bless Him.

Mr. Crowe was by far the most memorable teacher I've had during highschool. I recall his kindness as well as his exuberance (his unique Happy Birthday songs for the students)

Now that I am a professor myself in far away Burma, his teaching style and his many lessons help me reach my own students.

Gerry was a great friend of my family and myself when we all lived in Toronto! A wonderful guy! Rest in Peace Gerry!

Uncle Gerry lived life to its' fullest right up to the very end.  The night before he passed away at the hospital, we both chuckled about him flirting with the nurses! I asked him when did he wish to return to his condo and he said, "Can you take me out for lobster this Friday John?"  We both broke out laughing!
  We all loved and can relate to Gerry through our own experiences with him.
In the Taylor family, he was a constant fixture in our homes before our mother passed. Gerry was very close to our mother, his eldest sister, Bridget. Gerry lived with us for a number of years in different homes in London Ont. and Toronto - from the early 60's to 1970. My father, Bill Taylor, built a basement apartment for Gerry in one Toronto home. My Mom loved it; my Dad, not so much!
  Gerry's lively spirit will never be forgotten by anyone who knew him.  I enjoyed his booming laugh and humourous anecdotes many times at baseball games, pubs and many family occasions at our home.
  For the past 5 years my family has had the honour of overseeing Gerry's caregiving, with many stories of laughter and love. During the first 4 years, Gerry was his old self; the last 6-12 months were more challenging.
  Gerry's great love for people, especially his tenderness towards children, was one of his many gifts. Another gift was his musicality, which often lifted him into an impromtu Irish song, even in the end, when the lyrics  had faded from his memory. It didn't matter, his heart was in it.
  Uncle Gerry, you will be greatly missed, as a legend in both the Irish community and in the Taylor/Crowe families. Rest in Peace.

Having only taken one class of his @ WCCI, but having many fun interactions before & since (Mr Crowe was the staff sponsor of many clubs) AND at a local Irish function I can safely say this man lived up to his reputation😊 The kind of teacher and influence a kid of 1990-95 coming up in life could really use, I valued his presence. A bon vivant, larger than life character, the likes of which we shall never see again. RIP Sir.

My condolences to the family. Terrible loss to the Irish community and humanity at large. He was such a spirited, proud, kind, clever, funny & entertaining "character" as displayed thru his acting talent with the Toronto Irish Players . His generosity was unparalleled thru Canadian Food for Children and the hospitals he opened in India. He was also a very good friend to my late husband, John. So many great Gerry Crowe moments but one of the more memorable has to be one year on a return flight from Ireland to Toronto, Gerry walked up and down the aisles and got the entire plane joining in a singsong! I'm sure he's got the same thing happening in heaven! 

We will all miss Uncle Gerry’s larger-than-life personality, his infectious optimism, good humour, and zest for life. His love for his family and friends were unparalleled.  He truly was “one of a kind”. The pearly gates of heaven are surely singing now. Rest in peace and give hugs to my Mom, Dad and all our family members who are resting.

Sincere condolences to Gerry's family and friends on his sad passing. Gerry was a wonderful character and we loved his visits during the Summer to Boherroe here in Kilteely, Co. Limerick. Gerry loved visiting old friends and relations around County Limerick before heading to Athenry and the Galway Races. How he would love to have had his health to witness the recent success of the Limerick Hurling Team. He never forgot where he came from and loved visiting us to share stories and memories of his childhood with us. 

Gerry's presence would light up a room and he was a born entertainer. He had a great outlook on life. He loved to travel and live life in the fast lane. I was in awe of him as a kid and wanted to grow up and be like him travelling the World. I ended up in Canada years later and the first thing I did was get in touch with Gerry to show me around town. 

I would love to have been a pupil in his classroom. I can only imagine the stories, fun and entertainment he would have provided to his students. I remember driving him around Limerick in his rented car. I could have listened to and laughed at his stories all day long. 

It's such a privilege to have known Gerry Crowe and our sympathies go out to all his family and friends. The World has lost a great character and I hope we get to meet again some day Gerry.

The universe got a little smaller last night. My uncle Gerry passed away. Gerard Michael Crowe was the youngest brother of the Crowe family and my Dad was the oldest. These two men were the most influential figures in my life. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn’t be who I am. For 25 years he was one of my best friends. When I first moved to Toronto at the tender age of 18, Uncle Gerry took me under his wing. He was the first grown up who treated me like I was an adult – and that was SO important at the time. He listened to my ideas as if they mattered. He gave me a room in his house and introduced me to Toronto’s thriving Irish community and particularly to the Toronto Irish Players, where we honed our acting chops and we often played opposite each other in everything from Sean O’Casey to Synge. He was larger than life. He never disappointed if you were looking for eccentricity. And, for the most part, it was exuberant and full of love.  He did LOVE to be the centre of attention! And he loved to be around the rich and famous. He often boasted of the (true!) fact that he taught John Candy, and liked also to remember bringing a young lost Irishman and his family home to his place to stay – who later became the famous  Jim Sheridan (director of My Left Foot.) And he didn’t need any excuse to sing a song! I have far more Uncle Gerry stories that I can fit into this small space. He hosted annual parties at his tiny downtown Toronto condo. I would always help him prepare the food and décor. He would always be so nervous that it wouldn’t be a success, but soon there would be 100 people all crammed in there having the time of their lives.They were often strangers to each other, but would be friends by the end of the night. He and I would watch the sun come up and reminisce over the crazy events of that and past parties. I want to remember all these good times, and the amazing influence that he was in my life. Please pray that he is at peace.
