With great sadness we announce Jim's death on August 7, 2016 after a long illness borne with dignity and courage and a refusal to let illness define him. His Joy in living was a gift to the end. He leaves his grieving wife of 52 years, Marjorie (Douglas), son Gordon (Jeff Riffle), daughter Jennifer (Fausto Presta) and adored grandchildren Madeleine and Nathan. Jim's early years in Red Lake, Ontario where his father, Gordon (Wynn Coombs), was an early prospector, forged a man of great character and steadfast loyalty. An avid Queensman, graduating in Engineering '59, Industrial Relations'60, Law'67 and always an athlete, he played both Varsity hockey and football. His hockey playing days continued into his 80th year with weekly games. His travels took him afar including skiing, climbing and sailing trips. With an Engineering and Law degree Jim opened his own Patent and Trademark practice while acting as Patent counsel for Borden, Ladner Gervais. After retiring, many happy days were spent at his beloved Lake of Bays cottage, a testament to his many woodworking skills.
