Ireneo "Rene" Dela Cruz

Ireneo Dela Cruz (known to his friend as Rene) was a wonderful and loving father, grandfather, uncle, boyfriend, and friend passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2010. He was born on Wednesday, April 5, 1950 and grew up most of his life in the Philippines.

Growing up in the Philippines, Rene had worked at Radiowelt as a technician where he met his late wife Carmelita. He got married, had three boys and established a family life in Sta. Maria, Bulacan, Philippines. From there he moved on to work for PLDT (Philippine Long Distance Company) where he spent most of his career and got to know a lot of people who would eventually become great friends in Canada and help establish an annual picnic that reunite former employees of PLDT that are living in Toronto. Although, living in the Philippines was great, Rene and Carmelita wanted a better life and opportunity for their three boys; so they ventured off to Canada where they established a life in Scarborough. Rene worked hard for his family and was always there for his kids as they went from boys to men. Rene had celebrated many great events from celebrating his 25th anniversary with his wife Carmelita, his sons graduating from college and getting married, to his sons having kids. He was there for his wife as she battled Ovarian Cancer and was there at her bedside as she passed away in 2003.

Rene eventually found a new love with Angela where he would spend last moments of his life with as he battled Lung Cancer. He is survived by his family Angela, Richard and his wife Aileen, Raymond and his wife Genevieve, and Raynold; and his grandkids CJ, Casey, Adam and Ella. Viewing for Rene Dela Cruz is at Jerrett Funeral Home, 660 Kennedy Rd., Scarborough onAugust 27, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9p.m. The funeral will be held at St. Martin de Porres on August 28 followed by the burial at Pine Hills Cemetery.
