John Albert Dell, of Scarborough, Ontario, in his 86th year, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24th, 2014 after a brief and sudden illness. Born in Toronto, Ontario to Albert and Edith Dell, John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joan (nee Howie), children Sherry, Michael (wife Marilyn), Laurel (husband David Moore), and Matthew (wife Athena), grandchildren Matthea (husband Mathew den Boer), Adam, Ryan, Jeffrey, Julia and Jack and great-granddaughter, Holland. Loving brother of Mildred DeBlieck of Camrose, AB. Predeceased by sisters Dorothy (and her husband, Robert Weaville) and Shirley. He will also be remembered by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours.
John built his home in the early 1950’s, with the help of good friends Don Solley and Graham Gibson. He was a loyal employee of Bell Canada for 43 years and a member of Bell Pioneers. John was a hard-working, do-it-yourself type of man whose boundless energy, creativity and tenacity helped maintain the family home and summer cottage. He loved music and spontaneous music jams and sing-alongs and could keep tune with harmonica, jaw harp, spoons, ukulele and more. John always had time to chat with friends and neighbours and loved to help others. A proud survivor of prostate cancer, John was an active member of the PCCN Toronto Man to Man Peer Support Group. His smile and great stories will be sadly missed.
Thanks to staff at the Scarborough General Hospital for their care and compassion.
