Joycelin Aleta Stanton was born on October 13, 1950, to the late Harold and Ethel Stanton in the village of Maria Johanna on the island of Wakenaam, in the Essequibo River region of Guyana, South America.
Joycelin was the fifth of twelve children in a large and loving family of eight girls and four boys. Above all else, she was a devoted and loving mother to her only daughter, Amanda Stanton.
A true trailblazer, Joycelin was the first in her family to migrate to Canada in 1973. In the years that followed, she helped bring her mother, five sisters, and one brother to Canada, laying the foundation for the Canadian branch of the Stanton family tree.
After arriving in Canada, Joycelin began a long and dedicated career at National Life, which later became Industrial Alliance. Over the course of more than 45 years, she became a valued, knowledgeable, and respected member of the company.
Joycelin was also a faithful and devoted member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years. She served her church and community in many meaningful ways, including as Board Chair for the Isabella Walton Childcare Center. Within her church, she served as an Elder, a member of Session, and Clerk of Session, and greatly valued her work with the Presbytery.
Joycelin passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Monday, March 9, at the age of 75.
Lovingly known as Sis Joy, Auntie Joyce, and Cousin Joy, she will always be remembered as a pillar of strength to her family, a trusted confidant to her friends, and a devoted woman of faith within her church.
She will be deeply missed for her love of family, her generous heart, and the quiet yet profound way she uplifted those around her. She was also known for her fondness for her pets, her incredible cooking, and the care and attention she devoted to her plants and garden. Joycelin will always be honoured as an integral thread in the tapestry that weaves our family and community together, and she will remain forever in our hearts.
The Stanton family invites you to join them in celebrating Joycelin’s life with a visitation on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Jerrett Funeral Homes – Scarborough Chapel (660 Kennedy Rd, M1K 2B2) from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
There will also be a brief viewing before the funeral on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Westminster Presbyterian Church (841 Birchmount Rd) at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Joycelin’s memory to her daughter, Amanda Stanton. Donations may also be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation, Westminster Presbyterian Church, or the SHN Foundation in her memory.
The Stanton family deeply appreciates all tributes, food, flowers, and support during this time and wishes to thank everyone for the outpouring of love.
