Kenneth Harold Mitchell passed away on December 7, 2025 in his 79th year. He will be missed by Mary, his wife of 56 years, his children Jennifer (son in law Neil), Robert (daughter in law Susan) and Simon (daughter in law Zhenya). He was grampa to 4 wonderful grandchildren - Liam, Mae, Polina and Joshua. He will be missed by his siblings Mary Louise, Bruce (and wife Susan), Dave and Wes and their families. He will be missed by members of both the Mitchell and Buchanan extended families as well as many friends from his neighborhood, work, golf and ski buddies, and the Sinfonia orchestra.
Ken grew up in London Ontario where he had a paper route, played violin and enjoyed many games of table tennis in the basement of his family Jamaica street house with his father and siblings.
He attended the University of Waterloo where he met Mary. After graduating he went to work at the bank of Montreal in Montreal where he helped develop what we know as Mastercard. He went on to get his MBA at the University of Sussex. During that time Jennifer, Mary and Ken spent time travelling in their Volkswagen camper - to Denmark, France, Greece, Germany and even flew to Kenya for a month.
They eventually moved to Toronto living in the beaches and he worked for Woods Gordon. In 1984 he formed his own software company that developed efficient bus routes for schools.
As an adult Ken took piano lessons (and he was quite accomplished), played lots of golf, loved to ski and at the age of 67 he got his PADI diving license. As an adult he took up cooking and Marcella Hazan cookbooks were his teacher. He enjoyed Sinfonia concerts, the ballet, movies and the theatre.
Ken was a kind person - interested in helping his family and friends. He gave many people a good start in the business world by supporting Waterloo co-op students, family (cousins and his children) in their first jobs.
Celebrations of Life Services will be held in the new year in Toronto and at the family cottage in the summer.
