With deepest sadness the family of Larry Gillespie announce his passing at Toronto Western Hospital on Sunday, June 18 at the age of 68. Loving spouse of Maryanna Lewyckyj. Predeceased by his cherished mother Eleanor and his father, Peter. Dear brother of Peter (deceased), Paul (Linda), Colleen, Glenn (Louise) and Chris and uncle to Jacqui (Kevin), Jennifer, Daniel (Terrina), Michael (Amy), Meagan (Keith), Alana (Dan) and Jeffrey (Jessica). Larry retired in 2009 after working 34 years at the Toronto Sun, where he was known for his diligent technical support for the classified and editorial departments, his sharp IT trouble-shooting skills, and his poise in dealing with anxious writers facing computer problems on deadline. Outside of work, he was an avid hockey and softball player in his younger years as well as an ardent auto racing fan. In his later years, he became a devoted dog walker to Titan, a neighbour’s exuberant Jack Russell terrier. The family would like to extend deep appreciation to the caring staff of Toronto Western Hospital for their support of Larry during a complex illness. A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Sat. July 29, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 345, 81 Peard Rd. (off Victoria Park Ave., north of St. Clair Ave.) in the downstairs lounge. In lieu of flowers, donations to the University Health Network Foundation .
