It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Manuel Rodrigues Gaspar, on June 20, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 88. Born on April 19, 1937, in Quintas do Sirol, Portugal, Manuel lived a life rooted in love, patience, and quiet strength.
Manuel was the beloved husband of Adelina, his devoted wife of 59 years. Together, they shared a deep bond built on love, mutual respect, and decades of cherished memories. Forty years ago, they built a home in Colmeias, Portugal—a place they returned to often, hosting family and friends for dinners and taking pride in making their house a home.
He was a loving father to Paula and when Paul joined the family, Manuel was excited to call him his son-in-law. He was also a doting grandfather to Adele and Emily, who were truly the light of his life. Manuel never missed a chance to make them smile—whether it was finding playful ways to encourage them to express themselves in Portuguese or asking them to sneak a sweet treat with him; he was always present and full of joy in their company. As he liked to say, he truly was their “Number 1”.
Known for his gentle demeanour, Manuel was soft-spoken and kind-hearted, a man who never had a bad word for anyone. He embodied patience and dedication in everything he did, placing family above all else. His quiet strength, steady presence, and comedic timing will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Though he has left this world, Manuel's love continues to live on in the hearts of those he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family and making them laugh.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sunnybrook’s Palliative Care Unit.
