Predeceased by her husband Walter ‘Bruce’ Dobbs, sister Betty Munro, and parents Katherine (Kate) and William (Bill) Cook. Missed dearly by daughters Kathy and Jennifer (John); grandchildren Tim and Mike; sister-in-law Dorothy Bowes (nee Dobbs); and nieces and nephews.
Lou graduated from Belleville Collegiate Institute (BCI) then attended Peterborough Teacher's College, where she received her teaching diploma. She proudly attended regular class of 1957 reunions.
In 1961, she married her high school sweetheart, Bruce, and they relocated to Toronto where they spent the majority of their married life. They enjoyed a wonderful family life with many close friends and travelled often.
Lou unexpectedly became a widow at the age of 49, and decided to return to Belleville where she built her dream home on her family property at Pete’s Point on the Bay of Quinte.
Lou loved to cook, bake and sew. She loved to have friends for dinner and her baking often found its way to her neighbour’s doors! Her greatest joy came from operating “Lou’s Luvables”, sewing her adorable critters and selling them at craft shows with her sister Betty and niece Vicky.
Lou showed remarkable strength and spirit while living with Parkinson’s disease for more than 15 years. Her positive attitude allowed her to enjoy a very full life.
A Celebration of Lou’s Life will be held on Friday, October 27 at 1pm at the Belleville Club, 200 Pinnacle St. Belleville, ON. As per Lou’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will be held for family and close friends at noon at Belleville Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made in her memory at Parkinson’s Canada.
