It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Michelle Maurice of Toronto, Ontario. Michelle passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 20, 2024, after a courageous 30 year battle with cancer. While facing the challenges of her illness, Michelle remained a beacon of strength, resilience and unwavering pragmatism.
Michelle was born on March 2, 1954 in Penetanguishene and was the second of six children. She was preceded in death by her father, Justin F. Maurice and her mother, Anita V. (nee Desroches) Maurice.
Michelle will be lovingly remembered by her loving daughter Zoe, her brothers Roger (Catherine), Charles (Janet), Victor and Marcel (Denise); and her sister Renee Clark (Bill). Michelle was a devoted aunt to Nicole (Brian), Luc (Michelle), Andrew (Bailey), Corey (Tanya), Justine, Jerad, Daniel and Alexa.
Michelle had ambition and drive and worked hard to achieve what she wanted. After graduating from high school she ventured to Toronto to study at Ryerson University, now known as the Toronto Metropolitan University, in the field of Radio and Television and became an integral part of TVO where she worked for many years. Her most treasured achievement, however, was raising her beloved daughter Zoe.
In her retirement Michelle spent much of her time in Lafontaine, where her family was from and devoted herself to taking care of her mother. Michelle became an active member of the Villageois, the retirement community where she lived and became a pivotal person for her siblings and extended family.
Michelle kept herself busy with reading, knitting, cooking, shopping, playing computer games and volunteering to help others in her community and family. One of her greatest pleasures, however, was to spend long afternoons at the beach where she found peace and relaxation floating in the bay that had been part of her life from a very early age.
A celebration of life was held on August, 24th where we shared our most joyful memories in a place and season Michelle loved best.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Joshi and the staff of the Palliative Care unit at Michael Garron Hospital for the dignity and respect which they showed Michelle as they cared for her.
Although we will miss her greatly we take comfort in knowing Michelle's long fought battle with cancer has come to an end and that she is now at peace.
