Minh you fought a upward battle and never gave up ! Now it's time to rest my brother . We who knew you will miss you .   We here at wandarosa that had the privilege to work and really get to know you are extremely grateful.   Your work ethic and your sense of humor were like no other.  I remember us talking about your children and how you would speak so proudly of them . I'll will always remember our talks . Your a mans man ! .  You will always be in my heart !!

Dear Jennifer, Andrew and Yvonne.

Our deepest condolences on the loss of your husband and father, Chi Minh.

My first impression of Chi Minh was at the Toronto Pearson Airport on November 29, 1979. He had just landed the day before in Montreal and flew into Toronto the next morning with his family.
Chi Minh was wearing the dark blue parka, with a bright orange lining that was given to each refugee by the federal government as they landed in Canada. He looked nervous but tried to smile, taking in all of the new experiences that he would have as a new resident of Canada.

 After settling into a new apartment in Mississauga, Chi Minh had some medical and dental appointments to fix some minor problems after living in a refugee camp for months. He was eventually enrolled at the Greenwood School in downtown Toronto to help him learn the English language.

For the first few years, our core group of volunteers from the Toronto Japanese United Church sponsorship team helped Chi Minh to get accustomed to life in Canada. Once schooling was finished, he worked hard at his job to provide a stable and enriching life for his family. 

The story I remember most was told at our annual year end dinner gathering. Chi Minh said that when his family was on the packed boat leaving Vietnam, pirates approached to loot their possessions. He jumped overboard and escaped detection by submersing himself underwater and took his breath by using some reeds with its opening above the surface. Chi Minh was crying after speaking and I remain impressed to this day by his bravery.

We will missing his smiling face and his positive, upbeat nature towards life.

Tribute to Chi  Minh Tran

 We have known Chi Minh since 1979 when our Church, Centennial-Japanese United Church, sponsored four Vietnamese boys,  including Hi Minh and two of his brothers to Canada.  Three Church families have kept in touch with Chi Minh and his brothers for 45 years since 1979.  Initially, we helped them settle in Toronto by finding them an apartments, taking them to English language classes, showing them where to shop and found them medical and dental services.  We were also able able to find them employment.  Before long, Chi Minh and his brothers became more independent and self reliant by finding better jobs and places to live.   We were so happy that Chi Minh adapted so well to life in Canada and were honored to be invited to his wedding and to celebrate the births of Andrew and Yvonne,  We will miss him at our annual dinner at a Chinese restaurant but will always remember his friendship, his kindness and the smile he always had on his face.  He deserved a longer life.

We send sympathyand condolences to Jennifer, Andrew and Yvonne as well as Chi Minh's extended family and his many friends. Chi Minh arrived in Canada at the tender age of 15 or 16 and was able to go to school for a year or two fefore going to work. He told us about escaping from Vietnam to Malaysia on an overloaded boat and finally coming to Canada. 
We wee so happy when Chi Minh met Jennifer and they married and had two great children. We know that Andrew and Yvonne will look out for Jennifer.
