Mr. Nino Plateo

announce the passing of Nino

Plateo who was 88 years old.

Nino passed away peacefully on

Saturday, January 25, 2014.

Beloved husband of Maria. Nino

proudly spoke of his children

George (Tina Goldis), Regina

(Norm Wright) and John (Clare)

who have benefited from his

endless support throughout

their lives. Nino was

predeceased by his daughter-

in-law Silvana Plateo. Nonno’s 6

grandchildren loved him dearly,

Steven, (Jacqueline Almeida),

Christine (Brent Pautler),

Michael, David, Vanessa,

(Jeremy Tomashewski) and

Stephanie. They will miss him

greatly. Nino emigrated from

Italy in 1954, secured

employment within two days of

his arrival and worked for 50

years thereafter. He first worked

as a construction employee,

then with little language skills

and no money became self-

employed in terrazzo and

marble flooring. Subsequent to

retirement he worked in his son

John’s building business

unencumbered by the stresses

and risks of self-employment.

Nino was admired and respected

by the construction community.

He was hardworking and precise

in detail. Nino’s most satisfying

achievement was when he built

the family home where he

resided until his final days. Nino

attended Villa Colombo’s day

program where the staff were

exemplary in all they did for

him. Nino loved Mirella, Alida

and Gloria. The bus drivers

were cheerful and respectful

every day when they picked him

up. Villa Colombo provided

Maria relief and we thank them

so very much for their kindness.

Nino’s greatest joy was having

his family together for Sunday

lunch. He often repeated how

very lucky he was. It was difficult

watching the Alzheimer’s

progress. Maria worked hard at

keeping him at home attending

to his every need until his final

days. Many thanks to the staff

at Etobicoke General Hospital

for their kindness and

compassion. Family and friends

will be received at Delmoro

Drive, North York, 416-249-4499,

on Monday, January 27th from

1-4 and from 6-9 p.m. A Funeral

Mass will be celebrated at All Saints

Catholic Church, 1415 Royal York

Road on Tuesday, January 28th

at 12 noon followed by

entombment at Queen of Heaven

Cemetery, Highway 27 (north of

Steeles and south of Highway 7).
