Patricia, the daughter of Eileen Grace and William (Milly) Kearns and beloved sister of Peter and William (Bill), who predeceased her, passed away peacefully in Toronto on December 23 in her 93rd year.
At age six, Pat informed her parents that she wanted to be a nurse. With that, she graduated from St. Michael’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 and later received her Bachelor of Nursing from McGill University and her Master of Nursing degree (MScN) from University of Toronto in 1974. Pat enjoyed a wonderful career in nursing, getting involved with many different aspects of her profession, including clinical work, teaching, research and administration until she retired in 1997 as Director of the Woman’s and Children’s Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto.
Pat enjoyed classical music, tennis, skiing, her many beloved cats and being active with her dear friends. To be in Pat’s presence was always a gift. Pat exuded gentle kindness, loved hearing updates about others, and was always so caring and compassionate.
We wish to thank everyone at Presentation Manor for their care and kindness towards Pat in her final years.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass in Pat’s memory will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 520 Sherbourne Street, Toronto on January 7, 2025, at 10 am. Visitation will be held at the Church prior to the funeral beginning at 9 am. The funeral mass will be followed by interment at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Pat’s brothers, William and Peter, both attended St. Michael’s Choir School. When she heard that some boys were not able to attend the school because their families could not afford the tuition, Pat worked with the school to set up a bursary fund in 2022 in honour of her brothers and to help students afford the tuition. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the William and Peter Kearns Bursary Fund at St. Michael’s Choir School. (https://smcs.on.ca )
