We are heartbroken to share the sudden passing of Patrick Andrew Burwell, who died peacefully at his home in Toronto.
Born in Regina and raised in Saskatoon, Patrick was a gifted musician, a dedicated educator, and a pillar in Canadian theatre for over 30 years. He earned his Bachelor of Music from Western University and later completed a Master of Education from the University of Prince Edward Island.
Patrick’s career spanned performing, directing, arranging, and teaching. Since 2013, he was a full-time professor in the Music Theatre Performance program at St. Lawrence College, where he mentored countless students with honesty, humour, and heart. He was sharp, loyal, and generous—always pushing others to be their best while never pretending to be anything but himself.
Patrick was a deeply loving and caring husband whose devotion and partnership brought joy and strength to every part of his life. His friendships were marked by fierce loyalty and unwavering support—once Patrick loved you, you were loved for life.
He is survived by his husband Patrick, his brother Shayne and sister-in-law Shalene, nieces Ridley and Maclaren, his sister Susan, and nephew Gavin. He was a loving Guncle to Colby, Henry and Grayden. He is predeceased by his Mother, Elizabeth, his Father, Thomas and his nephew, Avery.
Patrick was fiercely loved and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, students, and colleagues. His legacy lives on in the lives he changed.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
