Sergio Simonetto

Sergio leaves his wife, Elda (Gatto); his daughter, Cristina, her husband, Chris Peter, and their son Jack; his daughter, Paola, her husband Alessandro Mileni Munari and their son Mario; and his son, Luca, Luca’s wife Sonia Di Biase and their daughter Ella. He will also be missed by his sisters Luigina, Rita, Sandra, and their families, as well as his extended family and friends.

Sergio was born in Cittadella to Giovanni Simonetto and Iolanda Simioni. He had an urge to travel that brought him south to Latina, where he met Elda. The same desire for more prompted Sergio and Elda to leave their home with their small family and start a new adventure in Canada.

They arrived in Canada in 1975, knowing only Sergio’s aunt and uncle, Angelina and Cesare Simioni. Elda’s sister Maria, Maria’s husband Lino and their children followed soon after, and rooted in this small family, Sergio and Elda grew their new life in Canada.

Sergio worked briefly as a writer for an Italo-Canadian newspaper, then in real estate, but found his passion in building homes. He worked hard to exceed expectations and build homes he could be proud of, and his clients and coworkers quickly became fast friends as they learned they could trust him.

Besides home building, Sergio was also passionate about the outdoors, fishing and hunting with his best friend Ciba (Giuliano) Ciabarri.

Sergio would always take the time to learn everyone’s name, from a CEO to a waitress. He was like this to the very end, always ready with a joke or a kind word for his friends, caretakers, nurses and family, even through the worst of his pain. He will be missed by many.

The Simonetto family encourages all of Sergio’s friends to join us at Delmoro Funeral Home at 61 Beverly Hills Dr. in North York, Wednesday Dec 21 from 2-4 and 7-9. His funeral will be held at St. Philip Neri Church at 2100 Jane St. at 10am, Thursday Dec 22.

Donations in memory of Sergio may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers.
