It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Shelley Lillian Elizabeth Pett (née Turcotte). Born on October 11th, 1961, in Toronto, to her loving mother, June Turcotte. She is predeceased by her treasured grandmother Lillian and her dearly loved brother Richard.
A beloved Wife, Mom, Nana, Aunt, and Friend, Shelley was the heart of her family, and a light to everyone who was lucky enough to know her. She met the love of her life, her husband Andrew, when they were teenagers, and together they built a beautiful life raising five children, and sharing forty-three years of marriage. She loved her children and grandchildren more than anything, and her impact reached far beyond her home.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Bryan (Anna), Jeffrey (Elizabeth), Michelle (Jeff), Jeremy (Meagan), and Emily (Sarah), as well as her grandchildren, Eli, Zachary, Morgan, Bennett, Mattias, Chloe, Henrik, Leighla, Larissa, and her newest eagerly anticipated grandchild, who will always know the deep love that their Nana had for them. She was very proud to be an Aunt and Godmother to many, whom she insisted call her, “Beautiful Auntie Shelley”, a name that was true both inside and out. Shelley is mourned by her three devoted brothers, Michael, Johnny, and Robert, and her cherished sisters-in-law.
Over the years, she opened her heart and home, offering a safe and warm place for anyone who needed it. She was always there to listen, guide, and support, and would never turn away a person who needed her, especially children. Shelley worked with Children’s Aid Society as a foster parent for over ten years and ensured that a bedroom was never left empty when there was a child in need to fill it.
She will be deeply missed at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, as the manager of the Prenatal Education Department. It was a program that was near and dear to her heart, as a Childbirth Educator and Birth Doula, where for over twenty years she welcomed countless babies into the world. She was especially passionate about supporting expecting mothers and new parents, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many families.
Shelley was a pillar of the Beaches Community, where she was born and raised, particularly at Adam Beck Public School, where her children attended. She was always the first parent to volunteer for anything the school needed, supporting the community even after her children had graduated.
It is impossible to convey the depth of this loss for Shelley’s family, friends, and for the community at large. Her greatest joys came from being with her family, and her definition of family extended to include so many. An incredibly selfless person, she dedicated her life to others, always ensuring that even strangers felt cared for and loved. For those who have had the immense privilege of knowing her, these words are unnecessary, for you have felt the impact that she had, and remains to have.
Her legacy will remain in the hearts of everyone she has touched, her influence on this world will be long-lasting, as only someone with her incredible spirit could accomplish.
