It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Weston Leroy Samuel of British Columbia and Ontario. Weston, 80, passed away on March 28, 2026 with family by his side in Toronto, Ontario. Born in the Parish of St. George on the small island of St. Kitts on May 29, 1945, Weston lived a life defined by perseverance. Pursuing his passion for political science, he earned his degree from the University of Toronto while working part-time at the Addiction Research Foundation and as an occasional cab driver on weekends to make ends meet. Weston later relocated to British Columbia where he went on to build a meaningful career in public service working for Correctional Service Canada until his retirement. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Weston was passionate about learning and always up for political debate. He loved collecting political magazines and listening to political podcasts. He was also a proud Kittian and proud of his Caribbean heritage which led him to serve as the president of the British Columbia Organization of Caribbean Cultural Associations for several years. He is survived by his daughters Richelle, Lazzelle and Brianna, his son-in-law Alex, his grandsons Andre and Elijah, his niece Orencia “Blossom”, his sister Gloria, his brother Basil and his ex-spouse and lifelong friend Lucy.
