

Father Bill German, SJ, Jesuit priest, died after a short illness on July 4th, 2017 in Pickering, Ontario. Bill was in his 92nd year of life and had been a Jesuit for 73 years. Bill was born in Toronto, Ontario, son of John German and Kathleen O’Brien. He entered the Jesuit order in Guelph in July 1943. He went to Addis-Ababa in Ethiopia to teach for three years. After one year back in Toronto for Theology studies, he went to St. Mary’s College in Kurseong, Darjeeling to continue his Theology studies. He was ordained a priest 21st Nov. 1956. He would remain in India for 31 years. He moved back to Toronto to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish where he contributed as an Associate Pastor for 29 years. He was well loved and appreciated. His niece, Wendy McCreath, other members of his family, The Corrigan’s, the German’s, the Scott’s, the O’Brien-MacTaggart’s, the Green’s and the Pozer’s, and his Jesuit companions, both in Canada and in India will grieve his passing. Evening visitation Thursday July 6th from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at St. Ignatius Chapel, Manresa-Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Centre, 2325 Liverpool Road North, Pickering, ON. Visitation Friday July 7th from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel, 467 Sherbourne Street (south of Wellesley) and 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 560 Sherbourne St. Toronto, ON. Evening service 8 p.m. Parking available adjacent to the funeral home. Mass of the Christian Burial Saturday July 8th, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial in the Jesuit Cemetery Guelph, ON following at 2 p.m. In memory of Father German, donations may be made to the Jesuit Development Office, 43 Queen's Park Crescent East Toronto, ON M5S 2C3.
