He is survived by his children: Glenn, Laura, Emma and Meredith, and by his grandchildren: Emily, Kay, Grace and Eve.
Wil was born in Calgary, Alberta on September 20, 1937, to parents Leda Sarah Parnell (born in Tiny, Simcoe County, Ontario) and Gordon James Giffen (born in Stayner, Ontario). Wil attended high school in Elmvale, Ontario, and graduated with a BA in Psychology from Victoria College at the University of Toronto . He started as a math teacher at Danforth Collegiate and Technical Institute in the east end of Toronto, and then was invited to work in the Guidance Department, so he went on to study at the Faculty of Education, with a focus on Guidance counselling, and spent much of his career as the Head of Guidance at DCTI.
Wil was a kind, gentle, happy person. He had a big heart, offering a helping hand or a listening ear to many, and was a gift to each person that was lucky enough to cross his path. Wil was a Life Master Bridge player. He loved recounting his many travels over the years, as well as his stories of his first job as a milkman for Lakeview Dairy in Barrie, Ontario. He loved his daily walks, crosswords and the simple pleasures of life. He will be greatly missed, and will be forever in our hearts.
A memorial visitation gathering for Wilmur will take place at the Giffen-Mack and Trull Funeral Home on Sunday, November 12, 2023, from 3-5pm, during which the family will be sharing memories at 4:00pm. The address for the Giffen-Mack and Trull Funeral Home is 2570 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON M4C1L3.
