Allene Kistler, a long time resident of the South Bay, passed away last month due to a long illness.
Living in Hermosa Beach for the past 36 years, Allene was preceded in death by her husband, Don. "Allie" as she was endearingly known, was born in Redondo Beach, CA but spent most of her childhood in North Hollywood. After graduating from North Hollywood High in the winter of 1951, she went to work for Universal Studios in the mail room and the casting office and had a brief modeling career. During this time, she was chosen to appear in the 1954 Rose Parade as the "Ice Maiden" for Hoffman Television. From there, she went to work at Allied Artists where she met her future husband, Don Kistler.
After marrying, Allie and Don moved back to Manhattan Beach to start their family and never left the South Bay. Allie was a devout wife and mother and after raising her children, returned to work. She was a dedicated volunteer at Torrance Memorial Medical Center for many years and since 1994 has volunteered at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. Allie supported various charities including: SPARE Animal Rescue and Mouth and Foot Painting Artists to name a few. Allie loved living near the ocean; enjoying the local mountains and travelling the country with her husband Don in their RV.
Allie is survived by her four daughters: Donene Kistler; Janine Walker and husband Jeff; Stacey Campbell and husband Tim; Christie Hayes and husband Greg, her nephew Michael Kistler and wife Becky and family, and one grandson, Trevor Hayes. To all that knew and loved her, Allie will be greatly missed.
Services in her honor will be held at Rice Mortuary, Torrance, CA on Monday, November 22, 2010 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, (310) 792-7599. Please use this website to sign the family guestbook and share your memories.
We Love You, Mom.
