1920 -2015
Anabel Mael was born in Franklin County, Kansas to Joseph Mathias and Hattie Florence (Cline) McNees. Anabel was the youngest of 13 children - Pearl, Harry, Martha, James Arvel, Charles Albert, Houston Elliot, Joseph Edward, Golda, Robert, Glen, Lloyd and Pauline. At the age of 15, Anabel and some of the family came to Torrance in 1936 where she graduated from Torrance High School in 1939. She worked for Bob Haley at Advance Aluminum and Brass for 40 years, retiring at age 65. After retirement, Anabel traveled with family and friends all over the United States.
Besides traveling, Anabel enjoyed fishing, watching the LA Dodgers and Lakers, gardening, many of her son’s and grandson’s baseball and soccer games and bowling. She bowled until she was 90 years old. But most of all, coming from such a large family, she enjoyed being with family - spending holidays and special occasions with many of her siblings and their families over the years. She also organized and kept going our annual McNees family reunion for over 40 years and that reunion continues to date.
Anabel was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Edgar Mael of Joplin, Missouri and all 12 of her siblings.
Anabel was one of the sweetest people you could ever know and was loved by all those she knew her. She will be missed terribly. We love you Anabel.
