

Ascencion “Chon” Villarreal was born in Dominguez Hills, California on May 29, 1930 and went home to be with the Lord on February 28, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was a longtime resident of Torrance and the South Bay.
Firstly, Chon loved God and inspired his children and family to have a relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord. Next, he loved his family, who loved him dearly in life and will remember him always as a selfless provider and role model. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and he worked for 40 years in the Aerospace industry and retired with Northrop Grumman. In his youth Chon was a golden glove boxer and when his children were young he performed as a mariachi singer and trumpeter and later sang in the choir at St. Philomena Church in Carson. Chon enjoyed running after coming back from his work. Some of his favorite activities were coaching his sons and granddaughter in AYSO soccer, watching his sons run cross-country and track and going to practices and games for his three sons who played football in high school and college. He was an active member of the Carson High School Booster Club and he was a skilled handyman who used his engineering talents to design additions to his home as his family grew.
Chon is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Vivian Villarreal, his sister Frances Padilla, his sons David (Barbara), Daniel, Eddie (Ada), Ernie (Loretta), Aaron (Lisa) and Adrian and his eight grandchildren Christine, Karen (Cameron), Andrew, Eva, Gabriel (Spring), Samuel, Joshua, Hannah and great granddaughter, Elise. He was preceded in death by his daughter Eva Ann, his parents, Francisco Villarreal and Julia Garcia, his sisters Lupe, Velen, his brother Gilbert and his grandson David M.
The Villarreal family will hold a viewing service on March 31, 2023, at the Lighthouse Memorial Center in Gardena from 4pm to 6:30pm and a funeral on April 1, 2023 at 12:30pm at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City with a reception following at the Rush Park Auditorium in Rossmoor from 3pm to 7pm.
