Betty Jean Poma was born on May 12, 1933 to Ernst and Virgie Lee Carson in Shreveport, Louisiana. At the age of 12, her family migrated to California where she attended Jordan Jr/High School. It was in her last years of school, she met Felton Poma and soon they married on April 19, 1951. From their union, 6 children were born, Felton Jr, Charles, Keith, Regina, Kenneth and Fatima. As a wife and a mother, Betty represented the true meaning of a virtuous woman. She was always right there with her husband, living life to the fullest, whether working in the yard, painting, camping, fishing, barbecuing in the yard, watching sports; listening and assisting to all her children with regards to whatever their life’s issue may be.
Betty Poma set the pace for her family, showing them how to be strong and family oriented no matter what. On May 27, 1979, after 28 years of marriage, when unexpectedly the Lord called her husband, Felton Poma home to rest, there was no surprise that Betty continued to be that strong tower, a true matriarch, and began to spend most of her time with her family. She was baptized in 1989 at the Greater Bethany Community Church and participated in the New Members Class and activities; singing in the choir as well for some years. However, her main devotion was to her grandchildren, greats, and great greats, who affectionately called her “GG” for short. If you wanted to know where Betty was, she was attending one of their talent shows, football, basketball, or baseball games, drill team, cheer, or dance events, or any other milestone event, like their graduations.
Betty Poma was a straight out, tell you the truth person from the “Ole School” she would let you know that what it is…is what it is…period. Then, could throw on that long handle spoon. Nevertheless, Betty was warm hearted, and open socially to those she would come in acquaintance with. She loved to be stylish when wearing her outfits, matching it up from the head to toe, nails, and feet done along with the accessories. She had a youthful spirit and the most amazing bright smile that is evident in any picture that she posed for. Classy for sure!
Well, Betty Poma the nucleus that showed her family sooo many values in this life has ascended. Her spirit earned her wings and she flew away with the Angels to rest on August 14, 2020. She leaves to mourn her six children, Felton Jr, Charles, Keith, Regina, Kenneth, and Fatima.
