
Beverly Jean Martin passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at UCLA Medical Center. Beverly was born on August 25, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois to Betty Jean Simmons. Betty moved the family to Los Angeles, California where Beverly attended school and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1973. She attended California State University, Northridge to study music, television and film before moving to Philadelphia to work in the record business.
Beverly loved the record business and worked for several record companies. She loved creating popular music and making life long friends. She returned to Los Angeles and in 1984, Beverly gave birth to her daughter, Ivori. As a music publisher, Beverly helped young artists reach their potential through training and advice. In 1993, Beverly gave birth and raised her son, Masai. During this period, Beverly continued writing music and scripts for film and television. When Beverly was not working on her next project, you could find her cooking, entertaining others or just watching movies. Beverly simply loved movies.
To cherish her memory, Beverly leaves her loving children; daughter, Ivori Angelika Harewood and son, Masai Christopher Maurice Morton; two brothers, Otis Martin and Maurice Simmons (Christine); two nieces, Shavonna L. Simmons and Maurine A. Simmons; one nephew, William Z. Simmons and one grand nephew, Jelani K. Jones and many friends.
