Charles F. Brokke of Gardena died November 22, 2006, at the age of 91. Mr. Brokke was born November 10, 1915 in Galata, MT. He served in the Army Air Force during Wold War II as a B-17 Waist Gunner. Shot down over Germany, he was , for 15 months, a POW at the infamous Stalag 17B. On 8 April 1945, 4000 of the POW's at Stalag 17B began an 18-day march of 281 miles to Braunau, Austria, where they met up with Patton's Army. After the war, he started his own auto repair business, worked for Douglass Aircraft, and then for 26 years worked for ATT GIlfillan, retiring in 1978.
He is preceded in death by his wife Edna, his brother James, his sister Marjorie and his half-brother Mervyn.
He is survived by his brother Howard, his nieces Sharon Row, Kathryn Kiser and Carol Jordan and nephews James Brokke, Robert Brokke, Leslie Brokke Edward Brokke, David Brokke, and Lynn Brokke.
His viewing will begin at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday November 29, 2006 at McMIllian and McCormick Mortuary in Gardena. His graveside services will be at 1 P.M. at Inglewood Park Cemetery.
