Charles Joseph Duffy

Joe was the husband of Sally Griffith Duffy; son of Leo F. Duffy and Dorothy Margaret (nee McNeill) Duffy; brother of James L. Duffy and the late William E. Duffy; brother-in-law of Margaret Koerner Duffy; father of Christopher L. Duffy, Charles M. (Mitch) Duffy, Catherine Duffy Zito , Elizabeth A. Duffy; father-in- law of Steven J. Zito and Tammy Duffy; grandfather of Megan Duffy, Emily Duffy, Abigail Duffy, Nolan Duffy, Nicholas Geist, Catherine Geist, William Geist; stepfather of Gabrielle G. Eichstaedt, Elizabeth G. Martin, Stacey G. Lyman, Tiffany S. Griffith and Robert J. "Bo" Griffith, Jr. Joe was a graduate of Lyons T.S. High School, La Grange, IL; University of Illinois, Champagne/Urbana and The Naval War College, Newport, RI. Joe was a true "Mustang" having risen from an enlisted man at age 18 to college graduate, to getting his wings as a Navy pilot. He enjoyed many duties as a reserve officer in his 34 years of service, among them heading a joint American/Spanish amphibious exercise in Spain to determine our air/sea worthiness. Most of all he enjoyed his trips to Ireland to conduct the swearing-in ceremony of young Irish lads into the U.S. Navy. Joe was President of Railroad Repair & Supply Company in Chicago, IL. He loved good cars, good golf, good cooking and good scotch. Joe's most recent authority: to seek out our patio and to serve mess to his faithful ducks, a duty he carried out with great distinction. The families would appreciate donations in lieu of flowers to The Intrepid Project in Texas or the Wounded Warriors Project.
