

Donald Leroy Reed, 88, died January 3, 2025, in Torrance, CA. He was born on May 15, 1936, in Escondido, CA to William and Margaret Reed. He grew up with his older brother Bill in Escondido and attended Escondido High School, where he met his future wife, Helen. Don and Helen were high school sweethearts and married in 1957. He attended Palomar College, then San Diego State University where he graduated with a master's in business administration. In 1971, he moved his family to Torrance and accepted a position with the US Customs Service, working first at Los Angeles Airport, then later in his career at the Port of Los Angeles, enjoying his work until retirement in 1999. He loved dove hunting with his brother, fishing with his children, spending time with his grandchildren, reading and investing in the stock market.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Helen; his three daughters, Chaney (Greg) Wright of Meridian, ID, Cobi (Michael) Campbell of Carlsbad, CA, Danelle (Eric) Williams of Meridian, ID; his son David Reed of Torrance, CA; and three grandchildren, Alex Wright, Amy Wright and Taylor Campbell. His family is extremely grateful to the caring staff of Vermont Health Care Center for providing excellent care for him in the last year of his life, and the Kaiser Hospice program staff, who helped keep him comfortable in his last months.
There will be no funeral service. Burial will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido, CA
