July 16, 1919-October 22, 2008
Doug was born in San Francisco and moved to Los Angeles as a baby.
He was a proud resident of Manhattan Beach since 1955.
He worked for the LA Department of Water and Power for 39 years, starting right out of High School. He worked nights so he could attend college. He was a student at Los Angeles City College for two years and transferred to USC until Uncle Sam said " I Want You". He served in the army from 1942-1946 as a radio operator with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was able to retire at age 58 to pursue other ventures. He was fortunate enough to travel all over the world including most points of interest in the USA. He was always happy to return home to "The Coe's Nest" at the beach. He walked the strand every day until the last couple of years of his life. He made lots of friends and he never met a dog he didn't like and the feeling was mutual. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Helen, daughter Judith Linhares, grand daughter Amanda Mason and two great grand sons, Zackery Douglas Mason and Chace Mason. Son in law Stephen Spretnjak and grandson in law Mark Mason.
A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, November 30th, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Redondo Beach Elks Club 315 Esplanade Ave. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in his name to the Elks National Foundation 2750 Lake View Ave. Chicago IL 60614-2256, or your favorite charity.
