

Ranen’s journey was marked by academic excellence and an unwavering commitment to service. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Shibpur Bengal Engineering College (now IIEST) in Kolkata, before immigrating to the United States in 1971. He first settled in Staten Island, New York, and later moved to Texas, where he earned a Master’s degree in Management from Texas Christian University in 1977. In 1980, he made California his permanent home and went on to earn a PhD in Business Administration from the U.S. International University.
Professionally, Ranen held distinguished positions throughout his career. He worked at Hughes, later Boeing, and ultimately joined the U.S. Department of Defense in 1991, where he served with honor until his retirement in 2021. His work was recognized and appreciated by the Department of Defense for its impact and integrity.
Beyond his professional life, Ranen was deeply committed to his community. He was a founding member of Dakshini, a Bengali cultural organization, where he served in various roles including Treasurer from 2006 to 2008. His integrity and high ethical standards left a lasting imprint on the organization—values that continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
A man of many talents, Ranen found joy in reading, writing, and music. He was known to many in the community for his musical abilities, often seen playing the piano accordion and guitar during Dakshini events. His intellectual curiosity and generous spirit touched all who knew him.
Dr. Ranendra N. Dutta is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Pratima Dutta (former President of Dakshini), his son Dr. Sukalpa Dutta, daughter-in-law Melvina, and cherished grandchildren Joya and Milan.
He passed away on July 13, 2025, after a brief illness. His legacy of knowledge, service, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
