Grace Scott (Amazing Grace) was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 23, 1927, to John and Helen Donlou, Greek immigrants. Grace was a resident of Redondo Beach, California for over seven decades and attended Redondo Union High School and UCLA and graduated with a degree in Music and a minor in French. She was a schoolteacher for Los Angeles Unified School District for 23 years and devoted to educating children. At 85, she moved from Redondo Beach to Garden Grove to be near her youngest daughter and her family.
Grace played piano well into her early 90’s. Her friends and family, called her “Amazing Grace” for her strength, her resilience, and her devotion to God.
Her joy came from her children, family, music, and her faith. She was a member of St. Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church for many years and a life-long learner (Living the Inner light) and chose to view the good in everyone.
She survived by her children, Jonathan Jennings (Donna), Helen Jennings, Maria Cominis Glaudini (John) and grandchildren Justin Jennings, Christa Penfold (Brad), Charlie Glaudini and great grandchildren Gavin and Rachel Penfold.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, John and Helen Donlou, her brother Dr. Ernest Donlou, her husbands, Ray Jennings, John Cominis and Ralph Scott, her eldest son, Ted Jennings, and many beloved cousins who were like sisters.
She embraced whatever life gave her. Even in her decline she found joy in the simple things. Her afternoon cookie, a bit of sunshine in her yard through the gentle care of her amazing caregivers; Team Grace. She saw beauty in everything and loved and lived life to the fullest.
Her motto in life is best described in her two favorite songs; “Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, latch on to the affirmative and don’t mess with mister in between.” And “You gotta give a little, take a little, let your poor heart break a little, that’s the story of, that’s the glory of love.”
She brought joy to all those who knew her and will be missed but heaven just got another angel and certain it is filled with children, music, dancing, and cookies.
