I called him "Uncle Gene", my mother\'s only  brother.  Though we lived states apart, when we were talking on the phone, writing, or sometimes  visiting in person,  he was always kind and very interesting.  Though I didn\'t get to visit as much as I would have liked, the time spent with Gene was always "quality".   Gene was a good Christian man  who worked and played hard and loved his family deeply.  I pray God will comfort Aunt MaryAnn, Cousins, Mark, Nathan, Joann and their families, just knowing that they will one day be reunited with their husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather, Howard Eugene Larimer. "Mr. Larimer" was my 7th and 8th grade science/health/PE teacher at Seaside Elementary in 1971 and 1972.  He was a wonderful role model and filled our heads with many real life stories to back up the facts of the subjects he taught.  I recall thinking that some of his stories were gross exaggerations; years later, when I saw things that he\'d predicted come true, I knew that he was clever and insightful. I enjoyed celebrating our Class of \'72 Silver Reunion with him; he is an integral part of my cherished memories of Seaside. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

Although my brother, Gene, and I lived 1800 miles apart, in our hearts we were very close.  Throughout the years we said good-byes as I left home, and he went into the Navy Sea Bees, attended college, and married a wonderful girl named Mary Ann and moved far away.  But this good-bye tears at my heart, though I know someday we\'ll be together again.      Over the past 45 years, memorable trips were made by Gene and his family and I and mine from CA to IA and visa versa.  However last years trip Gene and Mary Ann made to Iowa for their college reunion and to spend a few cherished days with us at my daughter\'s home was a wonderful time of fellowship.  The visits out on the deck in the warm sun, of old times and times yet to come leaves me with a bittersweet memory.  Gene often expressed his love for his wife, children, grandchildren and I.  I\'m thankful Gene shall never again feel pain as he\'s now in GOD\'s care.        I pray GOD will watch over my dear sister-in-law and her wonderful family, comforting them during this difficult time.  My brother shall be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.      Love Always, Betty      Here is a poem that express my feelings about my brother.  The author is unknown.      GOD saw he was getting tired and a cure was not to be,   So HE put HIS arms around him and whispered, "come with ME".   With tearful eyes we watched him suffer and saw him fade away,   Although we loved him dearly we could not make him stay.   A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands now rest,   GOD broke our hearts to prove to us HE only takes the best.

Larry touched the lives of many people.  His boundless energy and fighting spirit will live on in the memories of his family, friends, and students.  We pray that God will give his family the strength to celebrate his life and honor his passing.
