Gunner was born in St. Louis, Missouri, April 12, 1943, and died battling cancer April 30, 2008. In 1968, Gunner began working for the Parker Diving Service after completing a one-year diving course at the Underwater Technology Institute. He worked for Parker Diving nearly 20 years. Some of the large projects he worked as a diver on would include the underwater construction of the San Onofre Nuclear Plant, salvage operations on the 38, 562-ton tanker SS sansinena, and the installation of the Los Angeles Terminal Island Marine Outfall. Upon retiring from diving, Gunner continued his love of the sea by sailing - and in the Gulf of Mexico, undersea exploration work. He once sailed his 32-ft. boat solo to the sea of Cortez. He was considered a master mariner by all who worked on the sea with him. He also enjoyed writing, and was quite a philosopher and poet. He will be greatly missed by his many friends, and those who once worked with him. Gunner is survived by his twin sister Marie Ammer of Wakefield, MA. Ashes will be scattered at Sea June 3, 2008.
