Jane Marie Sopher

Jane Sopher, 94, beloved, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on June 24, 2017. Jane was a longtime Torrance resident. She was born June 10, 1923 in Los Angeles and raised in Highland Park, CA. After business school, she was employed in the business office at Barker Brothers, Los Angeles and in later years at Mervyns in Torrance for 20 years. As a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Redondo Beach from the early 1960s she served as a deaconess, and in children’s ministries which included teaching Sunday School for many years. She regularly ate at Snax in Torrance.

She is survived by her daughters, Gail Mincey of Santa Clara County, California and Karen Jaworski (Robert) of Toledo, Spain; grandchildren, Jeffrey Mincey (Brandi), Kristen Heinrichs (Bradley), Jonathan Jaworski, and Timothy Jaworski, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Sopher and her son-in-law, Douglas Mincey.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Redondo Beach on Saturday, July 8 at 11am. Jane will be laid to rest in Riverside National Cemetery with her husband Bruce in a private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 310 Avenue D, Redondo Beach, CA 90277.
