Dear Pete - I am so sorry to hear the very sad news about Jewel. I love the beautiful pictures you posted and I remember her telling me how she loved to fish. Last time we spoke she was cancer free. Sadly, I've wanted to call several times to catch up but it seems that we always let life's demands get in the way.  I'm so sorry that I didn't get a chance to talk to her. I miss the many talks that we had about God, life, and children.  Her warmth, positive attitude and encouragement always left me feeling at peace and smiling after we talked.  Please know that when we get to heaven God promises us a new body free of pain and suffering. Without a doubt Jewel is at peace with our Lord. Jewel welcomed me into this family 28 years ago with open arms. I married her niece Mary who was like a daughter to her. Jewel always had a smile on her face, kind words to say about others and a story about God to tell you. She had incredible faith in God and was an inspration to everyone who had the previlage of knowing her. She loved her family with all her heart and they were the most important thing to her.She also loved Pete very much. Jewel is now in heaven with Marie her sister she loved so much and her brother-in-law James; rest in peace.

Where do you start to tell the story of my Aunt Jewel a wonderful woman, a Godly woman, the best sister, aunt or friend anyone could possibly ever have. She had a smile that would light up the room and a heart the size of Texas. She was kind , loving and one of the most giving people you would ever meet. She loved my Uncle Pete with all her heart and Mr. Pug's their dog.They were like peanut butter and jelly they always stuck together.I have so many fond memories. Having prayer meeting every Thursday at her house in Lawndale with her bestfriend Barbara.Winchells donuts she had to have an Apple Fritter and black coffee.Aunt Jewel, my Mom and I would go shopping in the rain and Aunt Jewel said you always get the best deals in the rain.She loved to shop! Every time I would go to her house she would say Mary look I got one for you and one for me. She would always buy me the same thing she bought herself. I Love you and miss you Aunt Jewel. But one thing I know is I'll see you again in Heaven.

May comfort and peace come to Jewel's family. She gave comfort, peace and kindness to all of the tenants in Duo Quorum Apartments. I've been here since 1983 and don't recall the year Pete and Jewel became managers ... maybe 15 years ago or so. I connected with Jewel very easily. I am normally a private person and don't get to know many neighbors but she was the one I enjoyed talking to. I considered her my sister in the faith. Our topic of conversation was usually centered around what the Lord is doing in our lives and in the world. We first met Pete and Jewel about 3 1/2 years ago, when we were looking for an apartment.  To make a long story short, it seemed that God lead us right to them.  

They were both very kind to us and went out of their way to help us get started in their apartment building.  

Jewel was funny and had many entertaining stories to tell.  Over these last few years she has continued to be one of the bright spots in this building.

We will always remember her smile, her kindness, her strength and her readiness for a good chat.

We,as a couple who have only been married for a few years, are also inspired by how long Pete and Jewel have been together and we hope to live the same blessing.

Where do we begin?  Jewel was a pillar in the family.  She beat cancer once with a miracle and we always knew if God wanted her to stay, he would have done it again for her.
The memories are many and very vivid.  I can remember going mud boggin in Uncle Pete's dune buggy with my cousin Wayne in Portola. I remember the drives to Reno when Aunt Jewel would let me drive her new Pontiac Gran Am.
My fondest memory I believe was when we lived in the same complex as them and I was about 7yrs old.
I used to wait for my Uncle Pete to get home from work and ride my little red firetruck up to their house.  Pete and Jewel would give me some cookies and milk everytime.  Something I will always remember!
Apple fritters at winchells was my Aunts favorite and we would rush to the swap meet after that.
God truly blessed us with my Aunt and all she has done for the family and friends.
All I know is that God had a place for her for a long while!!

Jewel is survived by her husband Kenneth (Pete) King.They celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on May 14, 2010. Also survived by brother Eugene Boothe and sisters Shirley Lee and Connie Badgett. Also survived by nephews Michael and Gary Martin and Fred Badgett and neices Mary (Annette) Knapp and Michelle Schroff. Jewel surrounded herself with her many great neices and nephews and great, great neices and nephews.
Jewel was loved by many persons, family and friends and she adored all of them.
