
John was born in Chicago IL, and was 72 when he passed away. He grew up in Pasadena, CA and attended Loyola High School. He attended Pasadena City College for two years and transferred to Santa Clara University for his undergrad. He graduated from Dental School at the University of Southern California in 1960. John served his country as a Captain in the United States Air Force in Japan for four years along with his young family. He opened his first private dental practice in Rancho Palos Verdes for many years until returning to USC specializing in endodontics. John had a thriving practice in Torrance until his retirement in 1992. John was a member of the California Dental Association as well as a past president. He was a member of the American Association of Endodontists. As a young businessman on the hill, John was a member of Kiwanis and was a Nation Chief in the Indian Guides.
John loved art of all kinds, but especially painting in watercolor & acrylics. His hobbies included deep sea fishing, golf and wine collecting. He was passionate about his wife Kay, his children and his grandchildren and of course USC sports, especially football and tailgate parties. Boat racing and car racing brought him much joy and happiness.
He is survived by his Wife, Catherine Hogan of Palos Verdes Estates, CA; Daughter, Christina (John) Card of Palos Verdes Estates, CA; Son, Stephen (Michelle) Hogan of Rolling Hills Estates, CA; Son, Michael (Keoni Smith) Hogan of Incline Village, NV; 3 Grandchildren: Sean, Ryan, and Kathleen Hogan of Rolling Hills Estates; and Brothers Stephen and James (Deborah) Hogan of Newport Beach, CA. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Mary and John Hogan II; and Sister, Dolores.
A gathering of family & friends will be held at Rice Mortuary in Torrance on Wednesday April 16, 2008 from 4:30 to 8pm. The Service will be held at St. John Fisher Catholic Church on Thursday April 17 at 11am. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Rosemead the following day.
