''Pappy Jack'' passed away August 22, 2002 at the age of 78. Born in Pennsylvania, Jack has been a longtime resident of Torrance. He honorably served as a U.S. Army Sergeant in the Western Campaign during World War II. He subsequently became a lead mechanic with Western Airlines, where he worked for over 25 years. Jack is survived by his wife of 31 years, Frances, whom he loved and adored to the end; by his children, Eric and Curt Sheffield, Marcia Leinberger and Stacey Hayes; stepchildren Gary Kincade and Donna Hale; and by 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, including Kim and Rachel Hale and Grant Torre of Torrance. He also leaves behind many loving friends. Jack touched all who knew him and he will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, August 28, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M at Rice Mortuary in Torrance. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 29, at 11:00 A.M. at Rice Mortuary. Internment with military honors will follow with procession to at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
