

Johnnie Horner was born on March 6, 1951, at Bon Air Hospital in Los Angeles, California, to Carroll Horner Sr. and Geneva Horner, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a cherished father, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Johnnie received his early education at 75th Street School, continued to Edison Junior High, and later attended Fremont High School, where he proudly played on the football team. He graduated in 1969. Following high school, he pursued further education at Los Angeles City College and later transferred to the University of Southern California's Institute of Safety and Systems Management, where he completed specialized courses in the Transportation of Hazardous Materials & Waste.
In 1973, Johnnie married Ruby Smith, and from this union, three sons were born. Later in life, he shared a meaningful relationship with Linda Turner, with whom he had two more sons. At the time of his passing, Johnnie resided with his partner, Shirley Anderson.
Professionally, Johnnie began his career at Hughes in the early 1970s as an Assistant Process Engineer. His passion for helping others led him to a role as an Intake Specialist at Central Juvenile Hall in the Probation Department. Eventually, he followed his lifelong love of automobiles into the automotive industry, working for South Bay Toyota and Scott Robinson Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, where he remained until his passing.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Johnnie was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lakers, and Rams. He played baseball well into adulthood, only stopping due to illness in 2024. Known for his generosity and mechanical skills, Johnnie often repaired cars for family, friends, and neighbors, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Johnnie departed this life on July 7, 2025. His outgoing spirit, warmth, and kindness touched the lives of many.
He leaves behind five beloved sons:

· Darnell Horner (Danny) of San Diego, CA
· Cordell Horner (Scooter) of Atlanta, GA
· Justin Horner of Los Angeles, CA
· Joshua Horner of Arizona
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jacob, Kayla, Harmony, Tamara, Amari, Julian, and Jaden; and great-grandson, Jaxson.
Johnnie is lovingly remembered by his sisters Pamela Horner (Victorville, CA) and Verna Horner Tucker (Mississippi); his dear Aunt Rosie Harrison, affectionately known as Aunt Polly (Oakwood, TX); nieces: Andrea, Cassandra, April, Carla, Kim, and Cathy; nephews: Maurice Jr., Terrell Sr., Daishawn, Patricio, and Ronnell; and his goddaughter, Aamoni Augustine. He also leaves behind a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends.
Johnnie’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
A visitation for Johnnie will be held Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Halverson-Stone & Myers Mortuary, 1223 Cravens Ave, Torrance, CA 90501. A funeral service will occur Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, 1223 Cravens Ave, Torrance, CA 90501. A reception will occur Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, 1223 Cravens Ave, Torrance, CA 90501.
