Born December 19, 1930 Hawthorne CA Died December 31, 2008 Torrance CA
Joey spent most of his life in Torrance where many will remember him behind the counter at Cory's Liquor store. He worked there for many years prior to his retirement. Joey loved sports, all animals and yes, even a few people.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Kay, and his brother Buck. They will guide him on the next steps in his journey. He will also reunite with his dogs. First to charge out to greet him will be his beloved "Sunday". Heaven would not be Heaven for Joey if his dogs weren't there.
He is survived by his sisters Donna Grillo, Kathleen Arias, Maureen Leyva and Elaine Knapp. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews in CA, WA, AK, NV and TX.
Joey was somewhat reclusive, but Bill (Donald Thorne) and Sam Black were a big help to him. Thank you both for being his friends. His Neighbor Linda Jones was also nice to him through the years and we thank her.
His sisters Donna and Kath were especially supportive in what were to be his last weeks. Dominique was a welcome visitor at his bedside. His niece Mary Brooks was a steady Warm light in the past month for Joey and for the family. Thank you Mary.
At his request there will be no services. Rice Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. For anyone wishing to do so, donations to the Torrance Animal Shelter in Joey's name would be appreciated.
Abide With Me
Abide with me, fast falls eventide
The darkness deepens, Lord with me abide
When other helpers fail and comforts flee
Help for the helpless, 0 abide with me
Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies
Heaven's morning breaks and earth's vain shadows flee
In life, in death, 0 Lord abide with me
From all the Family, Safe Journey Home Joey
