June Ann Gleason

June Ann Gleason was born on January 9, 1931, at St. Vincent Hospital in Los Angeles, California. She was the first of three children born to Louis and Teresa Husting.  She was 90 when she died.  June started school at St Michael School and then went on to Ascension School in Los Angeles.  She attended St. Mary’s Academy in Inglewood in 1948. She continued her studies at Mount Saint Mary’s College where she studied Social Services.

She met Lewis (Buster) Gleason at the Young Peoples Club at Ascension Church.  They got married at on May 24, 1952.  They bought a house in Hawthorne, California and became members of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church where she spent the rest of her life. She had five children and was a full-time mom and homemaker until the youngest started school. She was active in various ministries at the St. Catherine Laboure and Juniper Serra High School in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1969, started work for the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women where she worked until she retired in 2001.  She continued to volunteer with the ACCW for another 10 years after her retirement.  She received the Cardinal Honoree Award in 2005 and the St. Catherine Laboure Honoree Award in 2016.

June was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She traveled to visit her children and grandchildren including to Turkey for her daughter’s wedding.  She had an open heart and would help anyone in need.  She opened her home to extended family if they needed a place to stay. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

June was preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother and husband.  June is survived by son, David Gleason of Lawndale, CA; daughter, Ann Grover of Oklahoma City, OK; son, Daniel Gleason of Westminster, CA; son, Larry Gleason of Stanfield, NC; daughter, Trudy Gleason of Manhattan Beach, CA; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held at Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions - Rice Center in Torrance, CA on Wednesday, July 28 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM (Rosary at 7 PM). The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine's Laboure Church on Thursday, July 29 at 10:00 am.
