Born on May 5, 1932 in Waimea, Kauai, Lou was the second of four children to Tai Sum and Priscilla Hualalai Leong. Lou was extremely proud of his many accomplishments from graduating from Kamehameha Schools (KSK ’50) and Cal State Long Beach to becoming a U.S. Veteran to working over a 55 year career as an aeronautical engineer for Transworld and American Airlines. He lived and breathed everything he accomplished. With his infectious smile, he had a profound effect of bringing people together with his love for cooking, his indelible sweet tooth for baking, and providing expert advice on fixing your car.
For all that knew him, his ohana or family was anyone that he respected and cared for whether it was his immediate family or a neighbor on his street. He always shared his aloha with others, which was truly his greatest quality. Lou is survived by his loving wife Katherine of 53 years, son Brendan (Rachelle Marcha-Leong), grandchildren Brianna and Amber, sibling Mynette Sentinella (John Sentinella), and nephews Dominic, Kent, Scott, and Rexford Jr. Lou is predeceased by his brother Rexford Leong (Dolly), younger sister Ernell Leong, and nephews Leland and Kendall. A prayer service shall be held at Lighthouse Mortuary in Torrance on July 19th, 2024 at 1 p.m with a celebration of life to follow.
