It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lynda Becker, who left us on Monday, June 16th at the age of 80. Lynda Becker was a beloved aunt, dog mom and friend to many people who she considered family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Lynda was born on March 8, 1945 in Cheyenne, WY to John W. and Mary Gray. The family moved to Southern California at the beginning of Lynda ’s high school years. She graduated from Mary Star of the Sea in San Pedro and started work at the telephone company. Shortly thereafter she was introduced to her soulmate and partner, William (Bill) Becker by her mother. At the tender age of 19, she eloped in a mad dash to Las Vegas with the aforementioned Bill Becker. Lynda and Bill quickly moved on from apartment living to a house in Torrance and then on to their dream forever home at La Casita in Redondo Beach. She lived at La Casita for 50 years and was an active member of the community. She worked at Harbor/UCLA Medial Center for several years before she left to start her own business. Many people she worked with over the years became her lifelong friends for which she was extremely grateful. Lynda was dedicated to her animals. So much so that several people wished to be reincarnated as one of Lynda’s pets. At one time they had 2 dogs, 2 cats and an African Grey Parrot that went with them in their very small car on their weekly jaunts to Palm Springs. She and Bill lived their lives to the fullest with sailing, skating, skiing, camping, scuba and oh so many adventures.
Lynda lived a very full life, hopefully with few regrets. The passing of Bill in 2018 was devastating. The last few years were tough ones, but she worked hard to overcome the challenges with the help of very good friends and family.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to SPCA would be appreciated. We invite you to please post your remembrances so that others can share in the appreciation of a life well lived.
Lynda touched the lives of many and will be forever in our hearts.
