It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Claire McGrath, of Hawthorne, California. She passed away in her home on May 4, 2021 after being diagnosed with lung cancer several years ago. She was 85 years old. Strong willed and independent, Marilyn's inner strength and resilience served her well throughout her life. She enjoyed a career at International Rectifier spanning several decades until she retired. Originally from Massachusetts, she moved to California shortly after she got married to follow her mother and father out here.
She loved to go shopping at her favorite places. To say that she was an animal lover, is putting it lightly. She met so many neighbors while they walked their dogs and she would feed the birds in her backyard daily. Anyone who knew her, also knew that she was the biggest fan of Englebert Humperdinck and would play his music over and over - that was her happy place.
Above all though, she loved her family and was a fiercely dedicated mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, neighbor and friend. Marilyn is survived by her children Debbie, MaryBeth, Gary and Bernie, as well as her grandchildren Jesse, Lindsey, and Christopher, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her mother, father, and brother Billy. Marilyn will be sorely missed by many relatives and friends who loved her very much. Family meant everything to her and gave her life unselfishly to those she loved.
The family wishes to express their warmest gratitude to everyone who lovingly cared for her during her final days.
