
in Torrance, California. A twenty-six year patient of Guillaine-Barre Syndrome, she had
been hospitalized for pneumonia that last week. She was a graduate of Washington High
School in L. A. and during World War II studied comptometer operating holding several
jobs in that line of office work. Following her marriage in 1944 to Naval Officer Walter
E. Peterson, they lived in Norfolk Virginia and San Francisco until returning to Los
Angeles following WWII. Moving to Palos Verdes Estates in the 1950’s, she and Walt
spent the rest of their lives in the South Bay. Margie Peterson was active in The League
of Women Voters, The Palos Verdes Women’s Golf Club and Epsilon XI Sorority until
her affliction with GBS and being confined to a wheel chair. Even following that she
served in whatever capacity was possible for her. Predeceased by husband Walt Peterson
in 1988, she leaves a brother, Robert L. (Ada Belle) Peterson, a niece Jean (Ken)
Chamberlin and a nephew Steve (Angela) Peterson as well as a grand-niece and three
grand-nephews. A memorial service will be Saturday, February 23, 2002 at 2:00pm at
Pacific Crest Cemetery Chapel, Inglewood Avenue at 182nd Street in Redondo Beach,
CA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Guillaine Barre Syndrome
Foundation, P.O. Box 262, Wynnewood, PA 19096 or a charity of choice.
