It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Mary. She was taken by the Lord on July 10, 2004. She was a third generation Southern Californian, born in Los Angeles on August 1, 1925. She spent her childhood in Redondo Beach, where she attended Redondo Union High School and was an excellent swimmer and runner. She met and married Frank Holland in 1940 and moved to Hermosa Beach where they raised five children, Richard & Michael Holland, Carol Hall, Janet McHugh and Barbara Ridnour. While Frank was fighting in World War II, Mary worked at Douglas as ''Rosie the Riveter''. Cooking and entertaining for her friends and family was her labor of love. Christmas was her favorite time of the year and she was well known for her great holiday parties. Besides traveling anywhere her kids would drag her, her other favorite thing to do was play the slot machines in Las Vegas. She also had 8 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren whom she loved to spoil and spend time with. She was an active member of The Native Daughters of the Golden West and she donated her time to the Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4:00PM to 8:00PM on Thursday, July 15, 2004 at WHITE & DAY COLONIAL MORTUARY, 338 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach, CA 90254, with Rosary being recited the same evening at 7:00PM at the same location.
