Mary “Shirley” Krumpe

Shirley Schulz was born on April 16, 1928, in Cincinnati Ohio. She was the third daughter born of 4 girls to Henrietta and Herman Schulz…Margie, Betty, Shirley and Kathy. Shirley married the love of her life, Robert H. Krumpe on December 29,1951. “Bob” spent 30 years serving in the US Air Force and the two of them moved throughout the country as they raised their family of 4 kids. Robert Michael (born in Texas), Kenneth William (born in Florida), Carol Ann (born in Ohio) and Paul Edward (born in California). They were married for 66 years until Bob’s passing in 2017…

Shirley cherished the days and life they would build in California, and the couple decided to settle permanently in Torrance, while Colonel Robert Krumpe, rose to retire as base commander of Los Angeles Air Force station. Shirley busied herself with the Officers Wives club, where she helped new military families adjust to life on base and settling into Los Angeles. She also volunteered for years at the thrift shop on base and enjoyed twice weekly bowling with Bob and in a women’s league. She became a big soccer fan, especially West High and LMU games, and loved dancing, bike riding, baking and cake decorating. She was a talented seamstress sewing for the entire family. She was team mom, loved visiting her kids, grandkids and great grandkids at soccer camp and always had a bag of goodies to hand out.

Shirley loved her kids, adored her grandkids and was especially beloved as “GIGI”, Great Grandmother to Addison, Avery and Amelia. She is survived by her youngest sister Kathy, her four children and their spouses. Bob Krumpe (Fledz), Ken Krumpe (Janet), Carol Collins (Gary) and Paul Krumpe (Kati). Her 8 grandchildren Marisa (Julian), Matthew, Madison, Michelle, Brian, Kevin (Lindsay), Tyler and Cameron…
