Matthew joined the Navy after graduating from Hawthorne High in 1998. He was trained as a Nuclear Electronic Technician rising to the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. He served on the submarine USS Georgia for 6 1/2 years as a nuclear propulsion operator reactor control. Matt also served as nuclear propulsion plant supervisor reactor control for 2 years and nuclear plant maintenance supervisor for 3 years.
He was awarded 2 Navy and Marine Corps achievement medals, 2 Good Conduct Medals and a Global War on Terrorism Medal. Matt also received ribbons for Sea Service Deployment and Submarine Warfare.
Survived by his parents, Gary and Susan, sisters Naomi and Stephanie, grandmothers Viola Dixon of Juneau, AK
and Jeanne Parks of La Puente, CA. There are many aunts and uncles who will miss him also.
Services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawthorne Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Navy Relief Fund or the American Cancer Society
