

Norbert "Bert" Talbert was born March 21, 1923 in Arlington, New Jersey and passed away October 10, 2011 at Torrance Memorial Hospital in Torrance, California. He grew up in Cranford, New Jersey and graduated from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (New York) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He served his country during World War II and married his wife, Edna, after the war ended in 1945. They lived in Florida, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and finally moved to Diamond Bar, California in 1977. Bert worked at FMC Corporation in New York, Philadelphia and then in the City of Industry, California until he retired in 1985.
Bert was always active in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, throughout his life and was awarded the Christus In Mundo
Award by Concordia University in May 2006 for his faithful service to expand God's kingdom. His work included unifying
the Chinese and Anglo congregations at Mt. Calvary Church in Diamond Bar under one Constitution.
His wife of 58 years, Edna, died in 2003 and four years later Bert moved to Torrance to be closer to his family. He was
a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Torrance where he served as an Elder, conducted Bible classes, and served
on the search committee for a new pastor until his health was failing.
Bert is survived by his loving daughter, Marcia, of Torrance; nephews Neil Talbert of Scots Valley, California; Peder Talbert
of Santa Cruz, California and George Talbert of Paso Robles, California; a grand nephew, David Talbert of Augusta,
Georgia and a grand niece, Allison Abreu-Talbert of Puerto Rico.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 21 from 4-8pm at the mortuary. Funeral services will be Saturday October 22, 11:00 am at Ascension Lutheran Church, 17910 Prairie Avenue, Torrance, California. Internment services will be Monday October 24, 12:01 at Riverside National Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Halverson, Stone & Myers Mortuary, Torrance, CA.
